Balteagh Old Graveyard
Balteagh Old Graveyard is located on the Drumsurn Road, just outside Limavady. It sits on the other side of the road from Balteagh Church of Ireland Church, which has its burial ground surrounding it.
It is said that the church was supposed to be built on the same side as the old burial ground as this is where the original church was located. The decision though was changed due to a crow picking up a plum line and taking it to the location of the present church. It did it for 3 nights, after which the congregation determined it was a sign from God and built the church where it is now.
It is unknown when the original church was built, but by 1622 it was listed as being in a ruined state. At some stage it was rebuilt and active again by 1768. A decision to build a new church was made some time later and the new one across the road opened in 1815. There is one Great War burial located here.
