Davies, N R (Norman R.)
Petty Officer Norman Davies was the son of William and Mary Davies; husband of Hannah Fairley Davies, of Copnor, Portsmouth.
Norman died while in port and on ship in Londonderry. He succumbed to a fatal heart attack caused by coronary thrombosis.[1]
His ship was originally named USS Branch and was launched during April 1919, transferred to the Royal Navy, and renamed H.M.S. Beverley[2] in 1940. It served in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and the Artic. Unfortunately, it was sunk only a few months after Petty Officer Davies death on the 11th of April 1943 by U-Boat 188[3] while part of convoy ON-176. All but four of the crew perished.
