Private William Davis was the son of James and Annie Davis, of 6, Blindgate St., Coleraine. Husband of Annie McAfee, Lagan Row, Millbrook Lane, Larne.
William landed in France to join the 10th Inniskillings on the 9th of December 1915. He joined them while they trained and marched from area to area. They had just finished celebrating the “Closing of the Gates of Londonderry (December 1668)” and had suffered no casualties or real front-line experience. Unfortunately, very little else in know about this soldier
At some stage, which is unknown, Private William Davis transferred to the Labour Corps and four years later died in the military hospital, Devonport, England. Reasons unknown.
William was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War and Victory Medals.
