Sergeant Harold Joseph Bryon Harrison was the son of Frederick Harold and Hilda Harrison of 23, Kings Road, Rushden, husband of Betty Harrison, of 25, Finedon Road, Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire. He was a good sportsman and won a few cups and medals while serving in North Africa.

Harold had joined the R.A.F.V.R. in November 1940 and went out to the Middle East after his training during January 1942.

Before Harold left for Africa, in December, he got married to Betty Harrison of 25, Finedon Road, Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire.

After he arrived in North Africa, he soon gained experience in bombing raids and when not flying he won medals in several physical competitions. Soon though, he would return home the following year during September 1942.

After some leave, Harold was posted to Northern Ireland for rest when on the 9th of October he took part in a training exercise, where he would be the target aircraft.

After a dummy attack, his aircraft lost power and started losing height. Although attempts were made, he could not make it to land and crashed into Lough Foyle near Magilligan, Londonderry.

Harold’s helmet was seen by another pilot, but it soon disappeared under the water.

Four months later Sergeant Harold Joseph Bryon Harrison’s body was recovered on the evening of the 8th, February 1943. He was buried on Thursday 11th, with full military honours.
