McGarrigle, G (George)
Private George McGarrigle was the husband of Elizabeth McGarrigle, of 96, Spencer Road, Waterside, Londonderry. He had five children, they were George, Annie, Matthew, Mary, Sarah, and Rebecca. He had worked previously as an orderly in a hospital.
George joined the army on the 28th of December 1915. He died at Ebrington Military Hospital on the 8th of December 1918 at 05:35 in the morning.
George had complained previously of muscle pains. This was diagnosed as myalgia but later this was changed to myocarditis,[1] and ultimately was the cause of his death.
At the end, he complained of being in a lot of pain and of weakness, but kept his dignity, the doctor stated he was quiet and sensible.
George was awarded no medals as he never served abroad.
