Lance Corporal William Stewart was originally from Rosemore, Co. Tyrone near Lissan, Cookstown. He enlisted in the same town and served in “B” Company, 9th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

Whilst training with the 9th in Randalstown, William fell extremely ill. He had pneumonia. His health progressively worsened until he died on the 9th of March 1915 in the presence of his mother Margaret Stewart and his sister Martha.

William was laid to rest from his mother’s house in Lissan on Thursday 11th of March 1915.
