Cassels, R B (Reginald Bulkeley)
Sub-Lieutenant Reginald Cassels was the son of James and Elizabeth N. Cassels, of Ayr. He served on board HMS Biter up until June 1944 when his Squadron (811 Torpedo Bomber Reconnaissance Squadron) transferred temporarily to RAF Limavady. They primarily flew Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers.
HMS Biter took on a new squadron a month later, 768 Squadron, they were equipped with Seafires and Wildcats.
Unfortunately, on the same day Reginald’s old ship, HMS Biter departed for its next convoy, which was on the 14th of July 1944, Sub-Lieutenant Reginald Cassels was either flying or taking off in Fairey Swordfish, NR896. He sadly crashed at Limavady airfield, the plane instantly bursting into flames and killing him.
At present there is no further information.
