Rifleman David Wylie was the younger son of the late James Alexander and Sarah Ann Wylie from Ballygudden, Eglinton. He had also been a member of the local pipe band.
David had served with the 31st Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles. It had previously been the 7th (Home Defence) Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles until the 24th of December 1941. Less than 2 months after David died, the battalion would leave for Great Britain.
Unfortunately, Rifleman Wylie died in the 20th General Hospital, Orangefield, Belfast on the 27th of July 1942 from complications from arsenical treatment for syphilis.
David was laid to rest during Thursday, 30th July. His Funeral had left his family home at 2:30 pm on that day.
