Cassidy, J (James)
Private James Cassidy was the son of the late Joseph and Matilda Cassidy, of 92 Fountain Street, Londonderry. In the same grave is also buried his brother Private Robert Cassidy, 15405, 10th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers who died on the 7th of July 1923.
Information is conflicting with the burial details of Private James Cassidy. While saying, he was serving with the Royal Irish Fusiliers 3rd Garrison Battalion as a private when he died at the Military Hospital, West Hartlepool, England, official documentation, and newspaper reports state he was a Lance Corporal in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, 10th Battalion. I do have a report from October 1917 where he was granted leave from the 3rd, and he may have been attached to the 663rd HS Employment Company.
Unable to find details of service with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers or if any medals were awarded.
James was laid to rest with a full military funeral on the 13th of July.
No further information is available.
