Moran, B M (Bernard McGuinness)
Ordinary Seaman Bernard Moran was the son of Bernard and Catherine Moran, of Glasgow. He served on H.M.S. Dianella.[1]
H.M.S. Dianella went into service during January 1941. It served as an escort ship in the North Atlantic.
March 1941 found HMS Dianella picking up 96 survivors from the Germanic[2] and the Hylton[3] which had both been torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-48.[4]
The following year it rescued 63 sailors from the Empire Byron[5] who was hit by U-boat U-703.[6]
On the 8th of March 1943, ordinary Seaman Bernard Moran’s body was found in the River Foyle, Londonderry. He had drowned.
