Gunner Edward O’Neill was the son of John and Mary Jane O’Neill, of Londonderry; husband of Margaret O’Neill, of Liverpool. He served with 6 Battery, 3 Heavy Anti-Aircraft and was involved in a serious accident.

Edwards regiment was based in Singapore under the Malaya command from September 1939 until its surrender during February 1942 to the Japanese. It is not known why he was not with them. He possibly may have been there when his accident happened and was then returned to the UK for treatment where he passed away.

Edward was buried from his brother’s house at 11, Walkers Place, Londonderry, during Friday the 9th of May 1941.
