Porter, A (Albert)

Porter, A (Albert)
Private Albert Porter was the son of John and Mary Porter of Union Road, Magherafelt, husband of Matilda Porter, of Rainey Street, Magherafelt; father of Dessa and Samuel.
Albert had joined the Royal Ulster Rifles before transferring to the Pioneer Corps during the war. He had been discharged from the army at his time of death, passing away on the 17th of January 1946 in his mother’s house on Union Road. He was laid to rest on the 19th of January 1946.
Unfortunately, John is certified as dying from “General Paralysis of the Insane”, which is caused by an Untreated syphilis infection. This is unfortunate as it could be cured with the use of penicillin which was widely available at that time.
Date of Death: 17/01/1946 (Aged 27)
