Reid, A C (Andrew Charles)

Flying Officer Andrew Reid was the son of James and Annie Taylor Reid, of Coleraine; husband of Annie Mary Reid, of Captain Street, Coleraine. He was also survived by two daughters.
Andrew was one of the founding members of the now famous “Northwest 200” road race which is held annually in the Coleraine/Portrush/Portstewart area of Northern Ireland. He was responsible for most of the organisational work involved and was initially involved with the “City of Derry and District Club” in the 1920’s before the creation of the “North of Ireland Club”, which he would represent within the “Motorcycle Union of Ireland”.
Flying Officer Andrew Reid joined the Royal Air Force at the beginning of the 2nd World War but was invalided home during February 1943 due to an issue with his heart. He would only last a few more months before succumbing to his illness with a heart attack caused by a blood clot.
Andrew’s funeral was a private affair that took place on the 23rd of July 1943 from his former home.
