Corporal John Richardson was the son of John Richardson and of Susan Margaret Richardson (Deveron), Burgh Hall Street, Glasgow. He worked as a fitter in the RAF.[1]

On the 25th of May 1945 at RAF Aghanloo, Limavady, a Sergeant Fern, who served in the station, directed John to a repair on an aircraft located quite a distance away. To get there quicker, the Corporal jumped on a tractor and sped off towards his next job. This was a common mode of transport on the base.

As Corporal John Richardson travelled towards his next job, he suddenly started skidding to the right. He immediately tried to rectify the problem by steering in the opposite direction, but instead of fixing the problem, the steering locked. The tractor rolled over, and John smashed the base of his skull either on the tarmac or the tractor, fracturing it. The Corporal was still alive and was immediately sent to hospital.

Unfortunately, during the next day at Roe Valley District Hospital, Corporal John Richardson passed away from his injury.

John was buried with a full military funeral. The war in Europe had ended, just 18 days prior to his death.
