Sergeant William Rodgers was the son of Robert William and Mary Jane Rodgers; husband of Beulah Edna Rodgers (Vaughan,) of Londonderry and an 11-month-old baby daughter called Sandra. He was serving in RAF Netheravon,[1] which was located on the Salisbury Plain, in Wiltshire, England.

Unfortunately, William passed away suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis[2] in Lisburn Road, Belfast. His brother was present at his death.

William had a full military funeral which left his father-in-law’s house at 62, Strand Road, Londonderry on the 29th of March 1945. Members of the RAF acted as pall bearers.

The Sergeant had been in the R.A.F. since 1938.

[1]  Netheravon airfield was established during 1913 by the Army Air Corps and became RAF Netheravon during 1918 with the creation of the Royal Air Force. It was eventually handed over to the Army Air Corps in 1963 and was used until 2012. Today it is used by charity.

[2] Pulmonary tuberculosis, sometime known as TB, which leads to wasting away of the body.
