Private George Shaw was the son of William Bathurst Shaw; husband of Margaret Shaw, of 64, Grant St., St. Georges Cross, Glasgow. He served in the 2/1 Ayrshire Yeomanry Earl of Carrick’s Own and other unknown regiments. The 2/1 Ayrshire Yeomanry had only arrived in Ireland during the very month that he died. Strangely his death certificate lists him as a Serjeant.

George had a chronic dilation of the stomach. This then led to chronic heart failure,[1] which ultimately took his life in the Military Hospital, Londonderry.

George was eligible for the British War and Victory Medals but would have been awarded these while serving with a different battalion as the 2/1 Ayrshire Yeomanry never left the UK. Unfortunately, no further information is presently available. His wife applied for his medals in 1927.
