Tomlinson, F (Frank)
Stores Assistant Frank Tomlinson was the son of James and Jessie Tomlinson, of Woolton, Liverpool, he served on H.M.L.S.T. 3515.[1]
Saturday afternoon on the 4th of May 1946 found Frank Tomlinson climbing up a ladder, tying a rope around a beam, coming down again, standing on a stool, putting rope around his neck and kicking away the stool. He took his own life.
Sub-Lieutenant John Anthony and Stoker Petty officer Sexton were soon on the scene and took the body down. They tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the sailor.
Frank Tomlinson best friend onboard, Edgar Thomas later said that Frank had been quiet for a few days, something was on his mind, but he did not know what.
Frank’s ship H.M.L.S.T. 3515 was a landing ship tank. It would be later renamed as H.M.S. Stalker (1947) and was built too late to take part in the war and so was used as submarine support around the coast of Northern Ireland.
