Able Seaman George Whitelegg was the son of William Alfred and Mary Jane Whitelegg, of Old Trafford, Manchester. He served onboard H.M.S. Newmarket.[1]

George is listed as having died on war service by drowning. According to records there is no evidence as to how this happened.

At the time of Georges death, his ship had just left their convoy early and had returned to Lough Foyle, Londonderry due to engine issues. They would go on to Liverpool for repairs, but not before Able Seaman Whitelegg had passed sway.
