Engineman Charles Cross is listed as missing presumed killed after he fell overboard from his ship during New Year’s Eve 1940. His body was taken out of the River Foyle on the same day. Official records state he died from asphyxia caused by drowning.
His ship HMT Drifter Kathleen was requisitioned as a minesweeper during November 1939 and returned to its owners in 1943.
