Cooke J (John)
Private John Cooke was the son of Reginald John and Emma Cooke of Londonderry; Husband of Grace Creswell of Londonderry, they married during 1938 in Whitchurch, Hampshire, Shropshire, England. John’s full name was the same as his fathers, Reginald John Cooke. He was known as John.
John contracted pulmonary phthisis[1] and passed away at his home in 25 Linenhall Street, Londonderry in the presence of his wife Grace.
John had served with the Highland Light Infantry. It is hard to say which battalion James was in though. The 1st had gone to France from Scotland at the beginning of the war (September 1939) and the 2nd was based in Egypt.
In previous editions of this book, I incorrectly named John Cooke as James.
