Douglas, S (Shane)
Leading Aircraftman Shane Douglas was from Londonderry. He was the third son of James and Mary Douglas of 6 Carlin Street in the City and was married to Eileen Douglas of Crumlin in Antrim.
Shane was unfortunately killed in a tragic motor accident in England.
On the 11th of March, his body arrived in the city by train and was taken to St Columb’s church in the Waterside where it lay in front of the alter until the next morning.
The events of the next day began in the morning with requiem mass being held. This was followed by a precession to, and finally his burial in Ardmore.
There was a large turnout at Shane’s funeral and wreaths were laid from the station he was based in with the Royal Air Force. Others were from friends and family.
