Petty Officer Cecil Hackney was the son of Charles Henry Richardson Hackney and Winifred Hackney.

Cecil was initially listed as missing on the 27th of December 1940. His body was later found in the River Foyle, Londonderry where he had drowned.

Cecil Hackney’s ship H.M.S. Broke[1] took part in the evacuation of France in June 1940 and the evacuation and demolition of St Nazaire and the French Biscay ports. During July of that year H.M.S. Broke joined the 6th Escort Group and escorted some thirty north-south bound convoys.

The Broke would ultimately be scuttled during the 8th of November 1942 by H.M.S. Zetland, because of damage previously caused during an attack in Algiers Bay.

Unfortunately, no further information is available.
