Private David Henry was the husband of Lizzie Jane Henry, of Tobermore.

David joined the Pioneer Corps early in the war and was sent to Iceland to aid in its defence just in case it was invaded by the Germans. Fortunately, it was not and so later he landed during D-Day where he was buried alive in a trench after being hit by a shell. After he was rescued, David had to be evacuated to England after suffering severe problems with his stomach. He was operated on several times, and it became so bad that his wife, Lizzie had to be called for.

Fortunately, David did not die and started to recover, later being discharged from the army before getting worse once again after he had returned home. Unfortunately, this time he did not recover and died. He was laid to rest a few days later with a large turnout of friends, home guards and service personnel on leave. It would be another 49 years before his wife was laid to rest beside him.
